Who were the sons of Issachar?
Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob are the Biblical patriarchs. Jacob(renamed ISRAEL by God), had twelve sons, also known as the “twelve tribes of Israel”. Issachar was Jacob’s ninth son, the fifth son born to his wife Leah. In Hebrew, the name “Issachar” means “man of reward” or “hired man”.
When Jacob (aka Israel) passed away, he blessed each of his twelve sons with a prophetic blessing.
What is a Prophetic Blessing?
A prophetic blessing is a divinely inspired pronouncement that conveys God’s favor, guidance, and promises over individuals, families, or nations. Rooted in the biblical tradition, prophetic blessings are often delivered by patriarchs, prophets, or spiritual leaders and are considered to carry the authority and power of God’s word. These blessings are not merely well-wishes but are believed to have thepotential to shape destinies and bring about God’s intended purposes.
“Issachar is a strong donkey, Lying down between the sheepfolds. 15 When he saw that a resting place was good And that the land was pleasant, He bowed his shoulder to carry burdens, And became a slave at forced labor.
Jacob’s blessing depicts his son as a figure embodying strength and dedication. The characterization of Issachar as a “strong donkey” conveys that the tribe of Issachar would exhibit both resilience and the capacity to withstand significant burdens.Intercessory prayer is the act of praying on behalf of others, carrying their burdens to the Lord. 🫏The Bible often describes intercessors as spiritual warriors—people who step into the gap to seek God’s mercy, healing, and intervention for others. In the New Testament, Scripture encourages us to carry one another’s burdens (Galatians 6:2)and to pray without ceasing(1 Thessalonians 5:17).
Issachar’s descendants would settle in a pleasant land, willing to do hard work to stay there. Eventually, they would do that work for others as slaves or servants at forced labor. The act of lying down between the sheepfolds suggests a state of rest, hinting at a preference for peace and stability over conflict.
About 200 years after Jacob’s blessing, Moses also issued a prophetic blessing for the tribe of Issachar before he passed. This blessing can be found in Deuteronomy, Chapter 33. Moses’ blessing for the tribes of Issachar and Zebulun appear to be connected, perhaps partly because they would eventually be located in close proximity to one another in the Promised Land of Canaan…
“Rejoice, Zebulun, in your going out, And, Issachar, in your tents. 19 They will call peoples to the mountain; There they will offer righteous sacrifices; For they will draw out the abundance of the seas, And the hidden treasures of the sand.”
In Deuteronomy 33:18, the descriptive phrase “Issachar dwelling in tents” indicates that they would be settled and comfortable in their allotted territory. The tribe of Issachar, along with Zebulun, is depicted as having a role in drawing people to the mountain, a likely reference to Mount Zion or a place of worship. This indicates a spiritual leadership or influence, where Issachar participates in guiding others towards worship and righteousness.
These Prophetic blessings were meant to pass throughout the generations of the sons (tribe) of Issachar.
Sons of Issachar, watchmen on the wall
The Tribe of Issachar is traditionally associated with scholarship and learning. Rabbinic literature often credits them with a deep understanding of the Torah and the calendar, which was crucial for determining the timing of religious festivals. This intellectual legacy is reflected in their reputation for wisdom and discernment.
Issachar’s fourth son was named Shimron, which means “watchtower” or “place of guard”. Shimron’s name seems to indicate his position in the family, as a guard or watchman.
The sons of Issachar were “men who understood the times and knew what Israel should do.” They were endowed with remarkable DISCERNMENT and WISDOM, a quality that was evident across generations. As watchmen, they perceived the world not merely in a PHYSICAL sense, as was common among many in Israel. This tribe possessed the ability to SPIRITUALLY DISCERN the actions and intentions of God.
An example of this occurred during the days of the Biblical Judges (c1350-1014BC). At this time, the sons of Issachar endorsed Deborah, a judge of Israel, in her campaign to defeat the very powerful Canaanite army who had been brutalizing the Israelites for many years. Deborah was the only FEMALE judge of Israel.During a time when women’s views were often discounted or overlooked, the sons of Issachar recognized that God was WITH Deborah.
Judges 5:15: And the princes of Issachar werewith Deborah; As was Issachar, so was Barak; Into the valley they rushed at his heels; Among the divisions of Reuben There were great determinations of heart.
The sons of Issachar understood the times and knew what Israel should do
1 Chronicles 12:32 describes this tribe as people who “understood the times and knew what Israel should do”. Looking closely at the context of this verse, we discover this was written during a very turbulent time in Israel’s history. King Saul, the first king of Israel had been anointed by God; however, God was no longer with Saul because of his sin and rebellion. God had REJECTED SAUL as KING! God chose ANOTHER to be king over Israel – David!
In the era of the Biblical King Saul (c1050-1010BC), the tribe of Issachar recognized that Saul’s fall was imminent. They acknowledged that the throne of Israel was about to be transferred to a shepherd boy who had become a formidable warrior named David. David was a giant-slayer.No human being could slay a giant unless God was with them!
As powers shifted, individuals from the twelve tribes of Israel took sides – Saul or David.David’s “Mighty men” rose up, a group of the toughest military warriors who served an important role in protecting David. They PERCEIVED that God had left Saul and chosen David TO BE KING. David’s Mighty men serve as a great reminder that when we walk with God to achieve His purposes, He will send help.
One of the groups that assembled at Ziklag to defend David were the descendants of Issachar. It is estimated that about 36,000 men of war from this tribe joined David. If we consider Issachar’s Prophetic blessings, we can imagine that these men had a special anointing or calling on their lives.
1 Samuel 15:26: But Samuel said to him (tfj: Saul), “I will not go back with you. You have rejected the word of the Lord, and the Lord has rejected you (tfj: Saul) as king over Israel!”
27 As Samuel turned to leave, Saul caught hold of the hem of his robe, and it tore. 28 Samuel said to him, “The Lord has torn the kingdom of Israel from you today and has given it to one of your neighbors—to one better than you
1 Samuel 16:14: Now the Spirit of the Lord had departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the Lord tormented him.
15 Saul’s attendants said to him, “See, an evil spirit from God is tormenting you.
Saul’s sin and rebellion opened him up to tormenting demonic spirits. Saul’s mind became clouded, his eyes darkened, he became unable to fully grasp reality. The sons of Issachar witnessed Saul’s descent into darkness and understood the times they were living in. A new king was coming, and the tribe of Issachar was ready.
Are we ready for change? World powers are shifting. We see the turmoil every day on the news. The battle between darkness and light is becoming increasingly evident. Who do we support? What do we do?
Darkness vs Light – The battle is real
John 1: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him not even one thing came into being that has come into being. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the Light💡 of mankind.5And the Light shines💡 in the darkness, 🌑and the darkness did not comprehend it.
14 And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us; and we saw His glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.(tfj: Jesus Christ IS the Word of God who was became flesh and dwelt among us. HE is the LIGHT of men).
There is a very real battle going on for dominion of this world. Darkness is trying to snuff out the light. Jesus Christ IS the Light who came into the world 2000 years ago, and all Jesus’ followers CARRY HIS LIGHT. 💡 John 1:5 tells us that the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness CANNOT comprehend it. The meaning of the word “comprehend” (katalambanō in the greek) indicates an attempt by the darkness to lay hold of, or appropriate the light, so as itself to become light. Though the darkness TRIES to masquerade as light, it will NOT succeed.
The battle is real! Darkness seeks to extinguish the true LIGHT while striving to disguise itself as light.
Formerly Christian Countries That Are Now Muslim
1. Turkey (formerly the Byzantine Empire): Once the center of Eastern Orthodox Christianity, now over 99% Muslim. Turkey is also one of several countries where the “ethnic cleansing” of Christians took place during the Muslim takeover.
3. Syria: Historically home to one of the oldest Christian communities, now majority Muslim, due in part to “ethnic cleansing.”
4. Iraq: Once a Christian heartland, now overwhelmingly Muslim, with a persecuted and sometimes “ethnically cleansed” Christian minority.
5. North African Nations (Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco): Formerly Christian under the Roman Empire, now predominantly Muslim, where “ethnic cleansing” has and continues to take place.
6. Bosnia and Herzegovina: Formerly part of Christian Eastern Europe, now about 50% Muslim where “mass violence” against Christians took place.
7. Albania: Converted to Islam under Ottoman rule, remains largely Muslim today.
8. Azerbaijan: Before the Islamic conquests, Azerbaijan was a predominantly Christian region, influenced by the Persian Empire and the Byzantine Empire. Now it is 97% Muslim.

WARNING FOR THE WEST!
History demonstrates that Islam does not simply coexist with other cultures when it achieves dominance; rather, it replaces them. The Islamization of formerly Christian nations was not an overnight process but a gradual shift through migration, conquest, and social pressure. Today, Western nations must consider the lessons of history as they grapple with the consequences of large-scale Muslim immigration.The decline of Christianity in its historic homelands serves as a warning!
The West must ask itself: will history repeat itself?
Looking at the UK, the answer might well be yes. According to this site, there are currently between 30 and 85 Shariah councils in the UK. The website muslimsinbritain.org estimates there are 2,122 mosques and prayer rooms in the UK. And several cities in the UK have or recently have had Muslim mayors. London, which has a Muslim mayor, holds a month-long celebration for Ramadan. For at least the past 10 years, Muslim groomer gangs that recruited, raped, and sometimes even killed little girls, were covered up, and some of the (mostly Pakistani) perpetrators were released, according to the BBC.
The battle is REAL! Although the darkness may claim certain victories, they shall NOT prevail! God’s kingdom IS COMING! 👑Jesus Christ IS the VICTOR and to the VICTOR goes the spoils! Just as Saul was deposed and David was established as king, so too will God establish HIS Eternal Kingdom on this earth.
The Issachar Anointing
Characteristics of the Issachar Anointing:
The Issachar anointing is a very popular topic in prophetic circles. It refers to the spiritual insight and discernment available to believers in Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit. This anointing enables them to understand the times and seasons,guiding them in their actions and decisions.
Wisdom, courage and boldness
Spiritual sons of Issachar are courageous, willing to break away from the culture in order to follow God’s leading.
This anointing enables believers to see clearly in a time of confusion, to walk in truth when deception abounds, and to remain steadfast when the world is shaking. They will put their SPIRITUAL insight into action, in alignment with God’s Kingdom purposes.
Those with this prophetic anointing recognize Kairos time, appointed time for change. Kairós (“opportune time”) is derived from kara (“head”) referring to things “coming to a head.
Intercede on behalf others
If you are being called to pray and intercede on behalf of others, you may have this anointing. These are the ones “standing in the gap”, pleading for mercy in the courts of God. Those with the Issachar anointing will seek to bear the burdens of friends, family, communities and nations.By stepping into this role, they are allowing themselves to be vessels for God’s love and mercy. 🙏🏻Intercessors have the ability to move the heart of God. 💖

13 Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, Your servants to whom You swore by Yourself, and said to them, ‘I will multiply your descendants as the stars of the heavens, and all this land of which I have spoken I will give to your descendants, and they shall inherit it forever.’”

Watchmen on the wall
“I have set watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem; they shall never hold their peace day or night. You who make mention of the Lord, do not keep silent, and give Him no rest till He establishes and till He makes Jerusalem a praise in the earth.” —Isaiah 62:6-7
Sons of Issachar are SPIRITUALLY AWAKE AND ALERT— They are vigilant and aware of the spiritual atmosphere around them, focusing on God’s Word and the leading of the HOLY SPIRIT rather than simply focusing on what they see with their physical eyes. Those individuals carrying this prophetic anointing have the ability to SHIFT the atmosphere and align it with God’s Will.
1 Thessalonians 5:6:So then let us not sleep, as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober. 7 For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, are drunk at night.
Are you a spiritual “son of Issachar”?
The end of the age is a Kairos time, God’s appointed time for change.
Daniel 2:44: And in the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which will never be destroyed, and that kingdom will not be left for another people; it will crush and put an end to all these kingdoms, but it will itself endure forever.
Daniel 7:14: “He was given authority, honor, and sovereignty over all the nations of the world, so that people of every race and nation and language would obey him. His rule is eternal—it will never end. His kingdom will never be destroyed.”
The old guard, who could not perceive God’s activity in the earth, continued to follow Saul, but God was doing something NEW. 💖

GREAT DECEPTION
The first sign that JESUS listed was GREAT DECEPTION on the earth. There has always been deception, but the deception at the time of the end was prophesied to be OFF THE CHARTS!! This is one of the FIRST SIGNS of the END OF THE AGE that the spiritual sons of Issachar should be able to discern. What are we seeing now? artificial Intelligence, Deepfakes, fake news, etc.

Jesus also listed Wars and rumors of war, kingdom against kingdom, ethnos against ethnos (race wars) as signs of His Second Coming. All of these signs are described as “birth pains” because like a woman’s labor pains these signs are prophesied to grow in frequency and intensity as we approach the end of the age.

Ongoing research from the Cultural Research Center at Arizona Christian University paints a bleak picture of our nation’s radically shifting moral landscape, with Americans no longer looking to biblical truth for moral guidance and increasingly rejecting traditional values that have defined us as a nation since our founding.
Several countries on the World Watch List saw an increase in anti-Christian violence. While the contexts were different, either tightly controlled autocratic states, or countries that are unstable due to weak government or civil war, the result was the same: targeting of Christian communities, destruction of lives, homes and churches, and immense pressure on believers.
Continued violence across Sub-Saharan Africa
Multiple countries in Sub-Saharan Africa have seen a rise in violence against Christians. Currently, 8 of the top 10 deadliest places for Christians are in Sub-Saharan Africa—and all of them (except Nigeria) have more faith-based killings than they did during the 2024 World Watch List reporting period.
Chronic government instability has created an environment where Christians can be targeted, and where Islamic militants can use the chaos as cover for their attacks on Christians.
Many Christians have been forced from their homes. Of 34.5 million displaced people across Sub-Saharan Africa, around 16.2 million are Christians.
The Open Doors Arise Africa campaign is a multi-year response to the overwhelming violence against Christians in the region. It relies on the prayers and support of Christians around the world to stand with the African church, to help it be salt and light amid extreme persecution.

FALLING AWAY FROM THE FAITH
The Bible tells us that in the last days, Christian persecution would reach new heights. Because of persecution, MANY are prophesied to fall away from the faith. We have been in the “last days” for 2000 years! We are now in the LAST of the last days!
Around the world, millions of people have traded the religious traditions of their upbringing for no religion at all.
In countries across Europe, the Americas, and East Asia, between 20 percent and 50 percent of the population has switched religions, according to a report out this week from the Pew Research Center. In most cases, they are now unaffiliated.
Over a third of adults in Spain and more than a quarter of those in Sweden, Germany, Canada, the Netherlands, the UK, and Australia are former Christians who are no longer religious. The US is not far behind at 19 percent.

Although turmoil in the world is prophesied to increase as we approach the end of the age, there is also an expectation for a great harvest of souls. The harvest of souls will include healings, signs, and miracles similar to what was seen at the first Pentecost when the Church was born. This is also known as the latter rain outpouring of the HOLY SPIRIT. 🕊️
I actually had a dream a few nights ago that I think indicates that the harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. The majority of God’s CHURCH is asleep and NOT READY for the harvest. Let the Spiritual Sons of Issachar ARISE and BESEECH God to supply more harvest workers!!🌾
Matthew 9:35:Jesus was going through all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every disease and every sickness.
36 Seeing the crowds, He felt compassion for them, because they were distressed and downcast, like sheep without a shepherd.

My Dream….
In the dream, I was walking down a very long hallway. It was a difficult walk because I was carrying VERY LARGE SNOW SKIS just in-case it snowed❄️, and VERY LARGE UMBRELLAS just in-case it rained 🌧️. I was struggling to manage all of this gear. Meanwhile, a group of people walking behind me down the same hallway zoomed past me, totally unencumbered with any gear. Not only did they FAIL to stop and ask if I needed help, but they did not even seem to notice me at all. As they were about to whiz past me, I dropped some of the large and awkward gear I was carrying. The people then TRIPPED over the gear and literally rolled down the hallway. One of them even seemed to hit their head. 😱
After prayerful consideration, this is one possible INTERPRETATION for this dream.
Notice that I was carrying SNOW and RAIN gear. In the Bible snow ❄️represents spiritual purity /SALVATION and rain🌧️ represents a move of the HOLY SPIRIT.
